Scholarship aims to give political training to Portuguese language professionals
WASHINGTON (Aug. 31, 2018)—The George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM) announced a new need-based scholarship in its political management program with support from GSPM alumnus and accomplished Brazilian political consultant Dr. Mauricio Moura.
The fund will provide a need-based scholarship for a GW political management student who is a native speaker of Portuguese. The scholarship will cover the full tuition costs for the 36-credit hour master’s degree program. The student would complete the program within four terms and would be expected to enroll in a minimum of three classes per term.
“We are deeply grateful to Dr. Moura for his generous gift. We are excited because of the opportunity this scholarship gives us to attract more students from Portuguese-speaking countries to our programs and to assist a student who would not otherwise be able to attend GW. Dr. Moura is a true role model for all of our students,” Dr. Lara Brown, director of GSPM, said.
“My personal experience at the Graduate School of Political Management and the George Washington University had been truly transformational and I am very excited to offer this particular scholarship. Furthermore, I strongly believe that this opportunity will not only spread knowledge and expertise throughout different regions but will also help strengthen ties among the George Washington University community and the Portuguese-speaking countries,” Dr. Moura said.
Dr. Moura, who was recently named by Washington COMPOL Magazine as one of the 100 most influential political professionals of 2018, has a long connection to GSPM. As an M.P.S. in political management graduate, he has given back to the school before by serving as an adjunct professor. He also serves on GSPM’s board of advisors. The school is thankful for his continued support and looks forward to working with him for years to come.
