WASHINGTON, May 4, 2020 – The Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM) at the George Washington University announced the hiring of Reid Wilson as this year’s Anthony “Tony” Coelho Adjunct Professor in the school’s Political Management master’s program. Wilson will also serve as a 2020-21 GSPM Fellow.

“The George Washington University was my home for four years of undergraduate education, and I am thrilled to return to help teach the next generation of political leaders and thinkers,” Wilson said. “The Graduate School of Political Management is unmatched in its ability to turn out top level leaders, operatives and those who are going to shape the future. I’m honored to be coming home to the university that made me the person I am today.”

Wilson is a respected journalist who has covered American politics for more than a decade. He is currently a national correspondent at The Hill. Prior to joining The Hill, Wilson worked as a staff writer at The Washington Post and served as editor-in-chief of National Journal’s The Hotline. His work has also been published in publications such as The New York Times, The Atlantic, and RealClearPolitics. He frequently appears on television news networks such as CNN, MSNBC, and C-SPAN and is the best-selling author of Epidemic: Ebola and the Global Scramble to Prevent the Next Killer Outbreak. Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree from the George Washington University in 2005.

"Long before I arrived at GSPM, I was a fan of Reid's insightful reporting on congressional elections,” said GSPM director Dr. Lara Brown. “I am delighted that Reid, a GW alumnus and top-notch political reporter, has agreed to serve as a GSPM Fellow and to teach a class on the practice and politics of redistricting. I am certain our students will find his career experience and political analysis both compelling and inspiring."

As the Tony Coelho Adjunct Professor, Wilson will teach a course in the Summer 2020 semester on the history of redistricting. The Tony Coelho Adjunct Professorship Endowment is made possible by a generous donation from former Congressman Anthony Lee Coelho and seeks to support programs focused on the disciplines of lobbying, campaign management, issues management, corporate public affairs, polling and strategic research, legislation, governance, and political leadership.

“Reid is a fine journalist who will be a big plus for GW and GSPM,” former U.S. Representative Tony Coelho (D-CA) said. “Our foundational vision for GSPM was to train and inspire young people to get involved in the business of politics, which is just as critical as motivating the next generation to run for office.”

Wilson will also serve as a GSPM Fellow for the next 18 months, contributing as a guest lecturer, panel speaker, and case study contributor.
