WASHINGTON – George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM) has recognized three distinguished graduates with Alumni Achievement Awards.

The award recipients were praised for their association with and support for the continuing mission of the school during GSPM’s alumni gathering during GW’s Alumni Weekend in October.

“Each of our alumni achievement award winners represent the core of what we hope our students become: leaders and advocates with a strong sense of commitment to their causes and communities,” said GSPM Interim Director Lara Brown. “We are proud to have them as alumni and look forward to their continued achievements in the years ahead.”

This year’s award recipients:

Janelle Carter Brevard: Brevard serves as the Director of Communications and Government Affairs at the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and leads the group’s public and legislative affairs, strategic planning, and media relations operations. She has also held corporate communications roles at Hilton Worldwide and Delphi. In the public sector, Brevard served as Senior Advisor and Speechwriter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Deputy Director of Speechwriting for Commerce Secretary Donald Evans, and Speechwriter for Senator Elizabeth Dole. A tireless advocate for literacy, she was named as a member of the Presidential Leadership Scholars Program, and launched a community-based book distribution program to help build home libraries for elementary students in her hometown of Moss Point, Mississippi.

Paul Jung: Jung directs a worldwide health organization as an Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service as the Peace Corps’ Associate Director, overseeing their health system for 7,000 volunteers in over 65 countries. Previously, Jung was the Acting Director and Deputy Director of Commissioned Corps Headquarters at the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General, managing personnel, deployment, readiness, medical, and payroll affairs for 6,800 officers and serving as a trusted voice in policy development and communications. Jung has received numerous citations and awards for his work, including the Richard H. Carmona Inspiration Award for outstanding service, superior leadership, and significant contributions to the mission of the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

Stephanie Schriock: Schriock heads EMILY’s List, which empowers Democratic women to seek larger roles in legislative bodies and executive seats across the United States. Schriock was responsible for the creation of the online fundraising model, which has transformed the way candidates and campaigns raise money, during her time as Finance Director for Howard Dean’s 2004 presidential campaign. A skilled campaign manager, Schriock headed the election efforts of Sens. Al Franken of Minnesota and Jon Tester of Montana. Schriock also served in the public sector as Chief of Staff to Tester. Her work for women’s issues extended to her presidency of American Women, a research organization that seeks to increase public awareness of issues impacting women and families.
