James D. Spellman serves as a consultant to private investment companies and the International Finance Corporate, providing counsel on public affairs involving governments in the United States and Europe and on corporate governance.  He was written and edited numerous publications on corporate governance that are used to train directors about best practices.   Prior to this, Spellman served as senior vice president for the securities industry's trade group.  Before this, he was a senior public relations representative for the Nasdaq Stock Market and the industry self-regulator, now known as Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. Other positions held include Head of Public Affairs for the World Economic Forum and press secretary roles for a Senator and Congressman.   He holds an M.Phil. in International Relations for Oxford University (U.K.).

He teaches Principles and Practice of Public Relations and was named professor of the year in 2013 by the College of Professional Studies.
