Bret Caldwell

Director of Communications, International Brotherhood of Teamsters

Bret Caldwell is director of communications and chief spokesman for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, one of the largest labor unions in the world – representing more than 1.4 million workers in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Prior to joining the administration of Teamsters President James P. Hoffa in April 1999, Caldwell served as assistant director of constituent outreach and deputy political director for NARAL – Pro-Choice America. He also worked as a grassroots and media coordinator for numerous federal, state and local political campaigns. Bret has also worked for Speaker of the House Jim Wright and two other Members of Congress. 

He received a BA from the George Washington University and a MA from the Graduate School of Political Management at the George Washington University.

Caldwell is the chairman of the Teamsters Labor History Research Center at GW and was a recipient of the university’s 2014 Alumni Outstanding Service Award. He is a member of the National Press Club and the Public Relations Society of America.
